The City of Perth Amboy’s Public Works Department and Office of Emergency Management would like to send a reminder to all residents regarding snow removal guidelines and procedures. Please read the following for preparation and clean-up in the event of moderate to severe snow conditions.
SNOW PROCEDURES & SAFETY REMINDERS
- Please stay off the roads in severe conditions. If you must travel, please take extra caution and car pool, when possible.
- Major and emergency roadways will be cleaned first for salting and snow plow/removal. See below for listing.
- All municipal lots are available for parking, except the RD Howell lot on 269 Madison Ave and at the Alexander F. Jankowski Community Center at 1 Olive Street.
- When clearing snow from your property area, sidewalk or vehicle DO NOT throw snow onto the street or a summons will be issued. Shovel snow onto your lawn or side of your property.
- Please also be advised that it is ILLEGAL to reserve parking spaces on any public road. Items such as trash cans, chairs, etc. on the roadway are strictly prohibited.
- Be aware of parking restrictions/signs that state “No Parking When Roads Are Snow Covered”—Do NOT park in these spaces or car will be towed.
- No parking around the entire City Hall Circle and no parking on High Street from The Circle to Gordon Street (East Side)
- Do NOT park in end section of a dead end/no outlet road.
- If you are near any fire hydrants, please assist in removing the snow in case it is needed in an emergency.
- Businesses are responsible for cleaning the sidewalk and curb, up to the street.
- For all non-emergencies and shelter relocation, call 732-442-4400.
- If you experience a power outage, contact PSE&G: 1-800-436-PSEG.
- FOR ALL EMERGENCIES DIAL: 9-1-1.

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE NIEVE Y RECORDATORIOS DE SEGURIDAD
• Por favor, absténgase de conducir en condiciones severas. Si tiene que viajar, hágalo con extremada precaución o viaje en grupo si le es posible.
• Las calles principales y de emergencia se limpiarán primero para echar sal y quitar la nieve. (Vea la lista de calles de nieve en la segunda página de este aviso).

RESIDENTIAL DUMPING GUIDELINES
- Only bonafide non-commercial residents can dump rubbish and non-construction wood at the DPW Garage located at 599 Fayette Street
- Residential dumping is allowed ONE DAY A WEEK (per resident, vehicle, or address) TWO times during that SAME DAY
- the same vehicle cannot be used by multiple individuals
- the same individual may not use multiple vehicles
- the same address cannot use by multiple individuals or vehicles on the day that you go to dump\
- ALL ITEMS BAGGED WILL BE OPENED AND INSPECTED
DUMPING DAYS and HOURS ARE:
- MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY & FRIDAY FROM 8:00 AM TO 2:00 PM
- ITEMS APPROVED FOR DUMPING AT THE DPW GARAGE:
- Electronics, recyclables, metal, brushes, branches, and small pieces of wood (4 feet or smaller)
- ITEMS NOT ALLOWED FOR DUMPING AT DPW GARAGE
- Construction material
- flooring, tiles, walls, ceiling, roofing, shingles, asphalt, concrete, siding, wooden fences, decks, framing material, aluminum siding, wooden stairs, porches
- Sheets of plywood or sheetrock
- Dirt in bags
- Grass

Regular household garbage is collected as follows:
North Side: Mondays & Thursdays
South Side: Tuesdays & Fridays
- For areas without automated containers: placed inside a garbage container no larger than 32 gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds. No bags on the ground. Do not mix recyclables in the Garbage. The cans are inspected regularly.

Litter is Waste out of Place
Remember, littering is against the Law and the City Ordinance. Please make sure that all of your garbage fits inside the container below the rim so it doesn’t fall on the ground. Please never intentionally drop anything on the ground. Use City receptacles or hold on to it and deposit it in a waste bin when available.

2024-2025 Leaf Bag Notice
2024-2025 LEAF COLLECTION
- Biodegradable Bags (Brown Bags) will be available SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 - JANUARY 24, 2025
- Bag Pick-Up Hours/Location: Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Except on holidays) Department of Public Works Recycling Center, 599 Fayette Street
IMPORTANT LEAF RECYCLING REMINDERS
- DO NOT BAG LEAVES IN PLASTIC BAGS. IT WILL NOT BE COLLECTED. They will remain curbside until re-bagged in biodegradable leaf bags.
- LEAF BAGS ARE FOR LEAVES ONLY. No twigs, garbage, grass, or dirt will be accepted in these bags.
- Leaves should be raked UP TO THE CURB AND NOT IN THE STREET. Do NOT blow or rake your leaves onto the street as it obstructs parking and potentially blocks storm drains. Summons will be issued for failure to adhere.
- EVERY RESIDENT WILL RECEIVE 15 BROWN BIODEGRADABLE LEAF BAGS. Please refer to the zone list for the collection day in your area.
- NOTE: There is no change to last year’s leaf collection schedule. Weekly leaf collection day remains the same as last year.

RECORDATORIOS IMPORTANTES PARA EL RECICLAJE DE HOJAS
- NO EMPAQUE LAS HOJAS EN BOLSAS DE PLÁSTICO. DE SER ASÍ, NO SE RECOGERÁ. Permanecerán en la acera hasta que se vuelvan a embolsar en bolsas de hojas biodegradables.
- LAS BOLSAS DE HOJAS SON PARA HOJAS SOLAMENTE. No se aceptarán ramas, basura, hierba o tierra en estas bolsas.
- Las hojas deben rastrillarse HASTA EL BORDE Y NO EN LA CALLE. NO sople ni rastrille las hojas hacia la calle, ya que obstruye el estacionamiento y potencialmente bloquea los desagües pluviales. Se emitirá citación por incumplimiento.
- CADA RESIDENTE RECIBIRÁ 15 BOLSAS DE HOJAS BIODEGRADABLES MARRONES. Consulte la lista de zonas para el día de recolección en su área.
