Redevelopment Agency
The City of Perth Amboy established the Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency (PARA) in March 1997 to guide
redevelopment planning and implementation across designated areas of the City. PARA works in coordination with
City departments and partners to support redevelopment activity, public improvements, and long-term growth.
Over the years, redevelopment efforts in Perth Amboy have helped advance new investment, environmental remediation,
public access improvements, and job creation. PARA’s work has included:
- Supporting redevelopment projects that expand the local tax base and contribute to employment opportunities.
- Advancing environmental remediation of underutilized or contaminated properties to support safe reuse.
- Facilitating public space and infrastructure improvements that benefit residents and visitors.
The City’s original redevelopment plan, FOCUS 2000, evolved from a citywide planning framework into an
implementation-focused initiative. In response to changing conditions and planning standards, the plan was later
updated as FOCUS 2020, adopted in 2018, to reflect a renewed vision for Perth Amboy and modern
development practices.
