Historic Preservation Commission
Concerned about the loss of a large number of historical and architectural landmarks in previous years, the City of Perth Amboy formed a Historic Preservation Commission in 1993. The Commission has several primary responsibilities:
- To keep an inventory of the city’s historic, cultural, architectural, and archaeological resources.
- To identify historical sites and landmarks for local designation.
- To review proposed changes to sites, landmarks, or structures within historic districts.
- To review proposed new construction within or adjacent to historic districts.
The Perth Amboy Historic Preservation Commission is the city’s most important tool for safeguarding the city’s historical, cultural, and architectural heritage.
