PERTH AMBOY POLICE CONNECT WITH YOUTH
by hosting an action-packed bike fest with community partners and positive messaging
WHAT: On Saturday, August 6, 2022, Mayor Helmin J. Caba, with Chief of Police Larry Cattano, alongside Perth Amboy Community Police, county and local community partners, will host an open streets event that will temporarily open Sadowski Parkway to people to ride, walk, skate, or with scooters.

The event's goal is (1) to enhance mobility and public space for residents by (2) closing off Sadowski Parkway while (3) engaging with Perth Amboy Police through innovative community policing activities.  Activities include two (2) action-packed BMX stunt shows by Dialed Action Sports, a mini bike rodeo hosted by Keep Middlesex Moving, educational and public safety activities, a bike competition, a mobile unit for COVI-19 vaccinations and boosters, and giveaways, all the while providing a powerful message on anti-bullying, being drug-free, bicycle safety, and responsible choices. 


WHERE: Sadowski Parkway, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. 
Sadowski Parkway (Madison Ave. to Linden Street) will be closed for biking, skating, scooters, and walking.

Dialed Action Sports BMX stunt show: 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM
Bike Competition (wheelies, swerve, tricks and combos): 1:00 PM

Onsite registration is required to participate in the competitions for ages 8-12 and 13 and up.  

WHY: The City of Perth Amboy is a 2022 grantee under the Bolstering Police-Youth Trust Program, under the State of New Jersey's Department of Law and Public Safety
(DLPS), Office of the Attorney General.  The purpose of the Bolstering Police-Youth Trust Program is to support community organizations and local law enforcement agencies in developing and implementing innovative community policing initiatives with youth engagement as a priority. Research demonstrates that youth are more productive and successful when they have opportunities to participate in structured programs involving good role models and mentors.
