Mayor's Message: Funding, Immigration & Info

Statement from Mayor Helmin J. Caba

Federal Funding Pause, Immigration Enforcement & Combating Misinformation

As Mayor of the City of Perth Amboy, I want to address concerns regarding the recently announced pause on federal funding and the growing unease surrounding immigration enforcement. These developments have understandably raised questions about how they may affect our community and the programs many residents rely on.

Federal grants play a vital role in supporting essential services, including social programs, housing assistance, public safety initiatives, and youth development. With the pause on federal funding, we understand that many residents are worried about the future of these critical resources. While we await further guidance, we are committed to keeping the community informed and ensuring transparency every step of the way.

At the same time, I want to address concerns about immigration enforcement. Let me be clear: immigration enforcement is the responsibility of federal agencies, not the City of Perth Amboy or our Police Department. Our local law enforcement will continue to focus on protecting the safety and rights of everyone who lives and works in our city.

During times of uncertainty, misinformation often spreads rapidly, creating unnecessary fear and division. Misleading images and statements about Perth Amboy have surfaced, aiming to distort the truth about our community. We strongly encourage residents to verify the accuracy of the information they see and rely on official channels for updates.

If you have concerns or need assistance, we are here to help. You can:

We also encourage residents to utilize these resources to better understand their rights and responsibilities:

We will continue to provide factual updates and ensure transparency as we navigate these challenges. Misinformation and fear tactics have no place in our city. Stay informed, verify sources, and rely on official channels for accurate information.

Sincerely,
Mayor Helmin J. Caba
