About the Celebration

Perth Amboy Day is our city’s community festival that brings together residents, visitors, and businesses. This year’s theme highlights our history, our culture, and our future. Come enjoy music, food, children’s activities, history tours, and a showcase of city services and community partners.

The day will officially open at 11:00 AM at City Hall with welcoming remarks and the announcement of Perth Amboy’s 250th Anniversary Commemoration. Immediately following, the Thomas Mundy Peterson Historical Marker will be unveiled on the City Hall Grounds as part of the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail.

History

The centerpiece of Perth Amboy Day 2025 is the unveiling of the Thomas Mundy Peterson Historical Marker at City Hall Grounds. As part of the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail, the marker honors Peterson as the first African American to cast a vote after the adoption of the 15th Amendment. This moment connects Perth Amboy’s story to the wider history of democracy in our state and nation.

The history focus of the day also includes the announcement of the Perth Amboy 250th Anniversary Planning Committee, which will guide preparations for the city’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

Visitors can also connect with local historical and cultural groups at community partner tables and take part in narrated rides on the Hometown Trolley. These historic tours will highlight prominent locations tied to Perth Amboy’s past and the upcoming 250th Anniversary, giving guests a deeper appreciation of the city’s role in New Jersey and American history.
