In Case You Missed It (ICYMI)
The 'In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) ' is a digital campaign series to provide information on city-wide initiatives to our staff, community, and legislative partners to keep in the know and share with residents of recent events held in July of 2022.

July 3rd - Firework Spectacular:
The community came together to watch the Firework Spectacular that was held on Sadowski Parkway. There were food vendors, arts and craft vendors, and music showcasing. Click here

July 3rd to September 4th: Concerts by the Bay: The Garden State Symphonic Band featured music from Broadway, Movies, Operas, Big Bands, Marches, Classical, and music representing many cultures from 3 pm to 5 pm.

July 4th – Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Liberty Bell Ringing Ceremony: Our Independence Day Celebration was celebrated alongside residents and guests Congressmen Frank Pallone, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez. Click here.

July 7th to August 5th – Youth Enrichment Program: Hosted by the office of recreation offering free lunch along with a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, academic programs, sports, reading clubs, workshops, and other recreational, leisure, cultural, social, and civic activities for school-age children and youth ages 7 to 13. The program began on July 7th and will continue until August 5th, 2022 Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Brighton Ave. Community Center located on 56 Brighton Ave. Click here.

July 9th – Monthly Clean-up: A monthly cleanup was held on 255 Smith St. from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

July 9th – Eddie & Brenda Trujillo Family Foundation’s Community Center Groundbreaking Ceremony and announcement of the Perth Amboy Police Athletic League:  Eddie and Brenda Trujillo Foundation will be opening a new Community Center located on 228 High St. The location will help the Perth Amboy Police Athletic League work with the youth through various activities that will help the youth with skill development, build confidence and be leaders. July 11th to July 22nd –Basketball Camp: Two sessions of boys and girls in grades 3rd to 8th  Basketball Camp were held at the Perth Amboy High School, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 PM . The first session was from July 11th – 15th. The second session was from July 18th – 22nd. The basketball camp focused on speed, agility training, basketball drills and skills. Participants were able to demonstrate what they learned in camp through basketball games that were held amongst themselves as well as contests. Click Here

July 11th – Sailing & Kayaking: The free event was held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Perth Amboy Waterfront where Kayaks, Paddles, and Life Vests were provided to participants.

July 11th to July 14th – Summer Art & Music Classes: Experimental Painting I: Children from ages 9 to 13 were able to attend the Experimental Painting I class Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for $20 at 339 Reade Street.

July 12th – Summer Art & Music Classes: Intro to Percussion: Children from ages 7 to 10 were able to attend the free Intro to Percussion class held on Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 339 Reade Street.

July 13th – Perth Amboy Police Chaplains Community Food Distribution and Vaccination: Free Vaccinations and food distributions were given to the Community. The event was hosted by the Perth Amboy Police and Fire Chaplains and took place at 357 New Brunswick Ave. from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM.  Click Here

July 14th – Adult’s Design Workshop: The American non-profit organization, KABOOM!,  held a Design Day at Shull School where kids and adults were able to sketch out their ideas for the new playground.  The new dream play space will be located at Albert G. Water Stadium. Click Here

July 15th – 988 Press Conference at Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Hospital: A press conference was held to announce the new lifeline phone number, 988 which provides 24/7 connection and confidential support. Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Hospital also announced that they will be providing mental health services at their facility.  Click Here

July 16th – City of Water Day: Residents and Volunteers participated in the City of water day Hosted by the Perth Amboy Green Team, the Recreation Department and the Office of Economic and Community Development with events that included, Kayaking on the Raritan River, Observing Climate Art, and other fun activities.  Click Here

July 16th to July 17th- Picnic Annual de Fatima (Iglesia Nuestra Senora de Fatima): The Annual Picnic was held at Iglesia Nuestra Senora de Fatima located at 380 Smith St. There was food, games, music, and more.

July 16th – Live at the Ferry Slip: The first performance of the Live at the Ferry Slip Original Music Series was held on July 16th from 7-9pm with performances by, Proper and San Simon. For other dates of the music series [click here].

July 18th to July 21st - Summer Art & Music Classes: Advanced Arts & Crafts: Children from ages 6 to 10 were able to attend Advanced Arts and Crafts classes Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for $20 at 339 Reade Street.

July 19th – D’Amigos Barbershop: The community event focused on men’s health with free haircuts and health checkups. Click Here

July 21st - Become a Perth Amboy Firefighter: An information session was held at the Fire Headquarter located on 375 New Brunswick Avenue where those interested in becoming a firefighter can receive more information and requirements prior to making the decision and move on with the process of becoming a firefighter.  Click Here

July 28th – Sign-ups end to joining Perth Amboy Police Department Youth Academy: The Perth Amboy Police Department held the ceremony of the Youth recruits who completed the academy this summer cohort. A special dedication to Andres Castillo with a mock-swearing in as a Junior Officer. Click Here

July 25th to July 28th – Summer Art & Music Classes: Experimental Painting II: Children from ages 9 to 13 were able to attend the Experimental Painting II class Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for $20 at 339 Reade Street.

July 29th – Movie Night: The Disney film “Luca” was shown at Washington Park located on 660 New Brunswick Ave with activities prior to Show Time. Click Here

July 29th - The Voice & The Voice Jr. Auditions: The Perth Amboy Community Theatre presented the singing competition, The Voice and The Voice Jr. at Warren Park located in Woodbridge. Along with the singing competition was special performance by members of the Perth Amboy High School Class of 1981 Cast of “Godspell”. Click Here

July 30th to July 31st – Brian Taylor Basketball Camp: The free two-day event was held at the Bryan Taylor Basketball Courts located in Washington Park on 357 New Brunswick Ave. With age groups 8 to 12 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 13 and up from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. NBA legend Brian Taylor with over 40 years of experience, worked closely with the youth to help them each build developmental skills and strategies. Click Here

Proprietary House is owned by the State of New Jersey and the museum is operated by the non-profit Proprietary House Association. We serve the community, hosting guided tours, lectures, concerts, storytelling, ghost tours, and teas. The museum's beautiful spaces are available for rent for special occasions such as weddings, dinners, meetings, and luncheons.

2022-2023 LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE
Biodegradable Bags (Brown Bags) will be available for pick up starting SEPTEMBER 19, 2022 through JANUARY 20, 2023
Bag Pick-Up Hours/Location: Monday- Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Except on holidays) at the Department of Public Works Recycling Center, located on 599 Fayette Street

REGISTER TO VOTE
To participate in Middlesex County elections, you must be registered to vote in Middlesex County.
Make sure you’re eligible to vote:
You must be a citizen of the United States.
You must be at least 18 years old at the time of the election.
(You may submit your registration at 17 or older.)
You must be a resident of New Jersey and your county at least 30 days before the election date.
You must not be declared mentally incompetent by a court.
You must not be incarcerated.

MONKEYPOX FROM THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
The vaccine for monkeypox is called JYNNEOS.
With the current limited supply of JYNNEOS vaccine in New Jersey, the following residents may be eligible for vaccination: *
People who have known contact with someone who tested positive for orthopoxvirus or monkeypox virus within past 14 days (contact your local health department to coordinate vaccination)
People who attended an event where known monkeypox exposure occurred within 14 days (make an appointment at a vaccine location)
People who identify as gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men (MSM), and/or transgender, gender non-conforming, or gender non-binary and who have a history of multiple or anonymous sex with partners within past 14 days (make an appointment at a vaccine location)
*New Jersey is expecting additional doses from CDC and as the State gets additional supply the Department will continue to expand access to the vaccine.
