Park Development

The Perth Amboy Office of Economic and Community Development works to rejuvenate existing parks and transform spaces into new park development projects. The Office works with NJDEP to protect Green Acres funded open spaces and find new open spaces for our community to enjoy.

2nd Street Park

Conversion of a scrapyard off of 2nd Street into a new, state of the art park is underway. Funded by NJDEP, the new park will service a neighborhood in need of new playground and park amenities while getting rid of contamination of soil. It will help clean the environment and boost the recreational accessibility of the residents in the neighborhood.  Read more about the 2nd Street Park Plan.

Rudyk Park Expansion

With the help of Rutgers CUES, concept designs were prepared for a future expansion of Rudyk Park. With a goal of making the park more accessible to the neighborhoods around Harbortown and northern State Street, the expansion project would increase the park area from its current location down to High Street. The concept designs include passive and active recreation space as well as storm water management features and other sustainability installations. You can see the concept designs here!

Middlesex County Park

The County of Middlesex is installing a new park on the corner of High Street and Washington State. The Perth Amboy OECD will be providing support for the development of the park and providing updates as they become available.

The origins of the park began in 2014 when the County acquired 5.85 acres of property along High Street. Two more waterfront parcels joined this to make a grand total of 9.9 acres. 2.75 acres of the 9.9 total were conveyed to the County from the City of Perth Amboy.

There will be two phases of construction for this new park, which is being developed by Najarian Associates. Phase one, which will be completed in Spring 2019, is centered on site work and preparation: the ground will be graded to support two “levels” for the finished park. Phase two will feature all kinds of amenities and improvements. These include:

• An artificial turf field for different sports like football and soccer
• A second turf field for baseball and softball
• A comfort station/maintenance building
• A playground for our younger residents
• Parking
• A walkway to help you fully experience the waterfront
• Benches, signs and other amenities to make the park more comfortable and accessible.
